Erikson’s Ice Cream serves as a perfect treat on a warm sunny day.

There is no worse feeling in the entire world than dropping a stacked ice cream cone, especially when it is from Erikson’s Ice Cream Stand in Maynard, Massachusetts.

Upon pulling into the parking lot of the ice cream stand, dust flies up and you can feel the rough gravel rumbling under your car tires. Without parking spots, it is similar to a drive-in movie theater; cars naturally form rows that are easy to get in and out of.

With extremely minimal outdoor decor, Erikson’s does not seem appealing to most. But oh, how deceiving its exterior is! The plain, eggshell white walk-up stand with a deep red roof and three windows does not begin to compare to the decadence found in their ice cream.

The ice cream is out of this world. Made in house, it is rich, creamy, and full of delicious flavor.
Since 1937, Erikson’s has created frozen masterpieces in over 20 flavors of ice cream and frozen yogurt from classic vanilla to apple strudel and ginger grapefruit. Along with the endless flavor choices, there are also many cone choices. Do you want waffle, cake, sugar, or candy-dipped? Or even a waffle bowl? All of these options are available upon a simple request.

Not feeling the typical scoop of ice cream on a cone or in a cup? Try one of their heavenly milkshakes or frappes. On the menu, there is a short but sweet description of the difference between these two treats. According to Erikson’s, a frappe is ice cream based while a milkshake has artificial flavoring added to milk with minimal ice cream.

Among the never ending options, black raspberry Oreo ice cream is a must-have. The Oreo chunks make up more than 50 percent of the entire frozen treat, giving a perfect balance between smooth and crunchy.

The kiddie is about the size of a baseball, and in a waffle cone it costs $4.45. Although this is a bit on the expensive side, it is worth every single penny.

Erikson’s Ice Cream Stand is a perfect place to bring a date on a warm summer day, or to just go by yourself when you have nothing else to do, because what is better than homemade ice cream from Erikson’s? Just be sure to keep that perfect scoop balanced on your cone!
