College CRC superhero: Kayleigh Durkin

People may know OF Kaleigh Durkin. . . but do they really know WHO this beloved CRC coordinator at Algonquin Regional High School really is?

Durkin graduated from Douglas High School in 2006 leaving as a well known and loved student by her peers and faculty.

“I received three senior superlatives. I won best smile, most likely to brighten your day and unfortunately” Durkin paused, “most gullible.”

All through high school Durkin was a determined and involved student.

“I was a member of the student council, peer advisory, National Honor Society and the student advisory council,” Durkin said. “I was also in chorus because I love to perform and was on the cheerleading squad because I loved participating in school events and loved the athleticism.”

Durkin is currently the ARHS assistant cheerleading coach leading the 2014 team to Regional’s continuing with her love for school spirit and sporting events.

Durkin left school with a dream of becoming an English teacher all thanks to one woman who shaped Durkin into who she is now and who she wants to be.

“My favorite teacher was Ms. Vaillant. She taught my English class. She is the main reason for me wanting to teach English. I am currently getting my masters in English and I’m going to hopefully be a certified teacher one day and I would love to be able to be a teacher”

Durkin has worked in the College and Career Resource Center Coordinator for two years now.

“I like working with all the students in the CRC,” Durkin said. “I enjoy watching them grow and succeed in their studies. I love seeing everyone start a new chapter in their life.”

Durkin expressed that “People need to remember to always follow their own dreams and their own heart and not let others chose their paths for them.”
