DECA Chapter Officer Malik Daley leads the school to success

Senior, Malik Daley will be representing the school at the State DECA conference as a Chapter Officer. His leadership will play a major role in Algonquin’s success at the conference in the near future.

DECA is a program that gives students taking business courses an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and their professional skills at the district, state, and national levels.

Daley started a regular participant as many officers do but what promoted him to join DECA may be surprising. Daley said, “ My neighbor was really successful at DECA conferences and challenged me to beat him in an event one year”

Daley’ competitive nature has allowed him to thrive at DECA.

By getting more involved and attending DECA multiple years Daley has become a Chapter Officer, a privilege that has many perks.

“I had the opportunity to attend the DECA district conference and help out the advisors there with grading tests, organizing and checking scores. I get to pick what shirts each participant from the school is going be wearing at the state conference along with carrying the Algonquin DECA flag on stage. And I get to wear a pretty ballantic DECA blazer,” Daley said.

Daley believes the leadership position will help him in his future professional career.

“ It has helped me become more of a professional. Through DECA you learn important business concepts that will help you in the near future.”

Daley is proud to represent Algonquin and feels responsible for promoting DECA.

“This year we had the most kids participate at the district level than any other school and we have the most kids that qualified for the state conference.  This shows how well the businesses teachers are doing,” Daley said.
