Boys Cross Country post season wrap up

The Boys Varsity Cross Country ended their post season on a good note by placing third at the league meet and sixth at the district meet.

The veterans on the team were surprised because many of the team’s new comers did very well at league meet, exceeding expectations.

Senior Sam Brazer finished first for the Tomahawks with a time of 16:09.0, averaging a spectacular 5:23.0 per mile at the district meet on Nov. 9.

The team incorporated a new strategy to have the five fastest runners on the team run together for the first mile so no one would fall back during the race. They also ran the course a couple days before to see what types of terrain they would be facing.

For all the seniors, this was there last cross country meet of their careers as they unfortunately didn’t qualify for the state meet. But they gave it their all during the meet, as many of them set person records.

“I figured this was going to be my last time running for Algonquin, so I put the pain aside and kept chugging towards the finish line,” senior captain Declan Healey said.
