What was something that you were surprised by?

“How people interpret the theme. I feel like some of them are right on the money and some struggled a bit.”

What was your favorite outfit?

“Kim Kardashian or Teyana Taylor. I find how different the styles are very interesting because I like them both, but they are very different from each other. And they both went in different directions. Kim’s big hat is an iconic staple in fashion and I like the style that Teyana used with all the chains.”

What was your least favorite outfit?

“My least favorite outfit was definitely Simone Biles, which I hate to say because she is amazing. But I have no idea what was going on. The blue is very loud. Are those flowers on her dress? Definitely a very interesting choice. I do like the collar though, the big collar is really cute.”

Do you think people did a good job of staying on theme?

“Not really, but that is not really surprising because no one ever does. But I feel like most of the themes are always up to interpretation, so it’s personal what you think would fit best. I personally don’t think a lot of people did, but some others might disagree.”

Who do you wish you had seen that did not attend?

“Lady Gaga, she is an icon.”

What was something that you were surprised by?

“How poorly some of the people dressed. Also how well dressed the guys were.”

What was your favorite outfit?

“Definitely Sydney Sweeney and Lana Del Rey.”

What was your least favorite outfit?

“Chappell Roan and Sabrina Carpenter.”

Do you think people did a good job of staying on theme?

“It was worse in previous years. It wasn’t the best, but it has been worse.”

Who do you wish you had seen that did not attend?

“Ariana Grande.”

Junior Sophia Shen

What was something that you were surprised by?

“Rihanna [announcing] that she was pregnant.”

What was your favorite outfit?

“Jennie from BLACKPINK.”

What was your least favorite outfit?

“Anne Hathaway.”

Do you think people did a good job of staying on theme?

“No, this year I definitely think they did better. The theme was more based on the culture of Black people and a lot of people don’t want to disrespect that.”

Who do you wish you had seen that did not attend?

“Wisdom Kaye.”

Social Studies teacher John Barry

What was something that you were surprised by?

“The sheer number of celebrities that I did not know.”

What was your favorite outfit?

“I am going to tie between Zendaya and Angel Reese.”

What was your least favorite outfit?

“Diana Ross. I know I am the last person one would consult about fashion, but what did that train have to do with the theme of Black dandyism?”

Do you think people did a good job of staying on theme?

“I am not sure. Some say the theme was Black dandyism, while others say that the larger umbrella of  ‘Superfine: Black Tailoring’ gave the attendees more options. But much was made about how the Met was honoring men’s style this year in a rare focus on men’s fashion. And I think several attendees did not bother with that at all.”

Who do you wish you had seen that did not attend?

“I was disappointed that Lebron James backed out with his knee injury. I pull for him to be more of a pop cultural force, but he always seems to misstep. He is entering into his elder statesmen period of his life, and I was wondering if he would embrace it. So I wanted to see him.”
