Maddie Faucher, Soccer

Senior Maddie Faucher will be attending Hobart and William Smith Colleges after being recruited to the soccer program as a striker in the spring of 2022.

When did you first start playing soccer?

“I was probably about six or seven years old when I started playing soccer.”

What is your favorite thing about soccer?

“I feel like I never get bored of it. Every game and every team you play against is different, so it’s hard to get bored as you’re always facing new challenges.”

What position do you play and what do you most enjoy about playing that position?

“I play striker, so I get to sprint a lot, and being able to score is definitely a fun part of the position.”

Why did you want to play soccer at the collegiate level?

“I couldn’t see myself giving [soccer] up just yet. My dad played at the collegiate level. [He played] Division II and III. I think seeing him doing the sport helped motivate me to want to play.”

What about this college enticed you to play for them?

“I always knew I wanted to play for a Division III school as I knew I wanted to study abroad my junior year [of college]. I wanted a highly academic school that had a really good soccer program. William Smith has consecutively been to a national soccer tournament every single year. I think [the school’s] really good academics mixed with a great soccer program made me really like William Smith.”

What are you most looking forward to in these next four years of your life?

“I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of new people and starting fresh. A lot of people at Algonquin have known me since I was little, so it’s going to be nice to start over.”

Do you have hopes to play soccer beyond the collegiate level?

“No, I don’t think so. I think after college I’ll be done. I definitely want to play a co-ed league when I’m older, but nothing semi-pro or professional.”

Do you have any ideas of majors or other focuses you’d like to pursue at William Smith?

“I know I want to major in psychology and do a double minor in Spanish and international business.”

Do you have anything that you think is important to include about your relationship with soccer or your commitment?

“It was definitely hard at first since I had to start looking at colleges in the summer going into my sophomore year, and I was going every weekend pretty much driving almost 14 hours round trip at times to attend clinics. It was hard because I was missing out on a lot but in the end, it was worth it. I only had to apply to one school and I knew where I was going before everyone else did, so it was definitely worth it in the end.”
