What do you like best about working as a special education aide?

“I think what I like best is the variety. I love that I’m in different grade-level classes. I’m in a ninth-grade biology class but I’m also in a senior math class, and I just like working with students either individually or in small groups, and seeing how students grow and progress throughout the year.”

What do you do over the course of a day as an aide?

“I’m in six different classes, some science, some math, some English, and some history. Then I’m also in one learning center period where there’s just a small group of students, so that’s where I work more individually with students. Pretty much just running around the building.”

What are the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your job this year?

“I think just being in six different classes, managing all that, getting to class on time, and in some classes, I might support three or four students so just making sure that I find strategies and techniques that would work for their particular learning style.”

What do you think about working at ARHS?

“I love it. I’ve been here ten years and I love the students, I love the staff, I love the energy level here. There’s just always something going on.”

What do you like to do in your free time?

“I love to hike, I’ve been exploring all of the local trails. I love to travel and spend time with my family.”

What would your students be surprised to learn about you?

“When I was in high school I did not like math classes. I found math really challenging and now math is my favorite class to be in. I’m in two math classes this year.”
