Special education aide Joan Buzzell: crocheting

What got you into crocheting?

“I actually have a part time job at night where I work as a security guard and I basically just sit and can’t use electronics. So I had to kind of come up with something to do. I just watched YouTube and I started doing the loom…I started doing hats, and then I watched videos on how to crochet and that’s how I started.”

How long have you been crocheting?

“Probably about four years.”

Do you ever crochet things as gifts for family and friends?

“That is how I started, by making hats and scarves for family. But then I just kept making them, and there’s only so many that you can give to people, so I was piling up hats and scarves and things like that, so I started signing up for crafts fairs and selling them.”

What is your favorite or most entertaining thing to crochet?

“I was doing a lot of hats and scarves and things like that, which I really enjoyed. But now I’m getting ready for a spring/summer craft show, and you can’t really sell winter things. So my latest thing I’m making is just a little jellyfish. It’s just a toy… I’m finding those a lot of fun.”
