I feel that prom is sort of unnecessarily demanding. During the months leading up to the dance, I’ve seen countless juniors stressing about prom, some even since this past January. People pay upwards of $1000 and dedicate a majority of their time and effort into this event, and for what? I think that it is good to have school events like this one, but I feel like the whole thing has gotten out of hand. The standard has been set so high that those who want to go must spend ungodly amounts of money to even participate. Students will spend hundreds of dollars on their dresses and tuxedos for a single night. Though that night will be fun, I think that spending this much money for it is a bit excessive. People could use this money in much more effective ways. There are so many possibilities that come from the hundreds of dollars spent for prom, when compared to spending for prom it seems outrageous. Junior year is already a very stressful time in students’ lives, so the stress and craziness of prom is unneeded for everyone. Prom will most likely be a lot of fun, but I do not believe that it should cost nearly this much money and cause as much stress for any students going.
