Junior filmmaker and photographer Kendall Sweeney has made a name for herself at school for her video making and picture taking capabilities.
Sweeney wasn’t always the filmmaker that she is today. She started her journey down that path of photography in fifth grade with her older sister’s old camera.
“I started [shooting] in fifth grade,” Sweeney said. “I would walk in the woods for hours trying to capture what I saw. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone and I would hide whenever I saw a car coming.”
Sweeney started as a photographer, but this year created a youtube video called Our Story, an inspirational video about the girls varsity soccer team.
“I filmed a bunch of home and away games,” Sweeney said. “It was meant to be a pump up for the CMASS final game. The clips were put together in a motivational montage.”
Sweeney, who is a soccer player herself, found time to make this video after tearing her ACL. She expressed that during her recovery time, she could not play any sports.
“I sat out the soccer season, which gave me the inspiration to film Our Story,” Sweeney said. “It gave me a new perspective on the game.”
Recently, Sweeney decided to venture into filmmaking. She has a love for photography, Sweeney wanted to take her passion to the next level. She did this by creating her youtube channel, Kendall Sweeney.
For Sweeney, this is not just a quick hobby through high school. Sweeney plans on majoring in cinematography, and learning two other languages. Sweeney is almost fluent in Spanish and has been teaching herself French.
“After college I want to travel the world for five years for National Geographic, or a company like them,” Sweeney said. “I want to film and photograph what I see.”
