Guidance counselor Kathryn Mulcahy: cookies
What got you interested in making cookies?
“ I went to go visit my friend in D.C. a couple years ago, and she was just trying to think of things for us to do. One of them was taking a cookie decorating class…then when we got there we both kinda got extremely competitive and way too into it. since then it’s just kinda taken off.”
Do you have a lot of friends who make and decorate cookies as well?
“Not really. Some have asked to help or some have asked me to teach them how to do it. I have decorated cookies with a couple friends, and my sister in-law helps me out every now and then with some orders. But I’m pretty much flying solo.”
How long does it usually take?
“If we are talking 60-ish cookies…I don’t really know like end to end how long it takes me just because it’s not my full time job. I usually bake the cookies one night after school and then, usually, decorate on a Saturday or a Sunday and it’ll take me, making the frosting and coloring it and actually frosting…maybe 6-8 hours.”
What is your favorite part about decorating and making your cookies?
“Most of the time I find it relaxing, unless I make an error: then I get frustrated…And then just seeing people when they get the cookies and eat them, it gives me a sense of satisfaction like I completed something.”
