How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
You don’t want to miss Jim Carrey as the Grinch. Not only is he hilarious, but he does a remarkable job portraying the essence and persona of the Grinch.
Because it is not a cartoon, all of the actors are real people with a lot of hair and makeup alterations. The complexity of the way the Whos in Who-ville are portrayed is quite fascinating. From the crazy hair to the funky outfits, crooked teeth, and the pointy noses, the movie transports you into Dr. Seuss’ mind. It truly gives justice to the iconic story.
The older I grow, the more I fall in love with this movie as I understand the Grinch from a different lens. The story told through the Grinch is one that everyone can relate to. He really has a lot of love to give, but the hate he receives at a young age stays with him and makes him feel unwanted, an outsider, thus causing him to be, well, a grinch. We can all learn a lesson or two from this movie about the effects that our words can have on others.
P.S. In November 2018 there was a remake of this movie, “The Grinch,” that features Pharrell Williams as the narrator and Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of the Grinch. I highly recommend this version for any fans of the 2000 film.
