Ever since I can remember, my mother has taught my siblings and I that everything happens for a reason. I’ve never really given the phrase that much thought until now, until the last days of senior year have started to slip away. My time at Algonquin has been unforgettable, filled with both ups and downs that have shaped me into the person I am today. And through it all, I’ve come to realize that each moment truly did happen for a reason.
Looking back, the start of freshman year was overshadowed by the effects of COVID-19. However without COVID I wouldn’t have realized that I wanted something different, something bigger than the small regional school in Boylston. Without COVID, I never would have transferred to Algonquin and become a Titan. It sounds silly, but I am thankful for the pandemic because of the “push” it gave me to put myself out there and explore a place bigger than what I’ve known my whole life.
When I started at Algonquin, I found myself shy and nervous, afraid that I’d never make friends and be happy. Yet, if high school has taught me anything, it’s that the best of friends can be found in places you least expect it. I found friends in different classes, on the field, after school and even in the student section while watching football games. I wouldn’t have the relationships I have today if I had never given each of those different and unique individuals a chance. I am forever grateful for the hundreds of dollars I’ve spent on gas, and the number of hours behind the wheel bringing myself between Northborough and Southborough, all to see friends I never knew existed just years before.
Along with the friendships it’s brought me, being a Titan has also shaped me as an athlete. These past four years being a part of the field hockey team has taught me discipline, responsibility and to trust the process. Improvement is not a straight line, but a path often filled with bumps along the way. Every mistake and every loss has taught me how to turn a negative into a positive and to have pride in the logo on the front of my jersey.
As I prepare to leave Algonquin behind, I am filled with gratitude for each small moment that led me here. These last four years of my life have been full of learning, laughter and unforgettable moments. Thank you Algonquin. To any underclassmen or future Titan reading this: remember everything happens for a reason.
