Contemporary Applied Math I and II
Are you interested in how math can be used in the real world? Contemporary Applied Math I and II (CP and Honors) are new electives that focus on the application of math.
Replacing the Statistics (CP) course, Contemporary Applied Math I is focused on the study of statistics, whereas Contemporary Applied Math II delves into practical uses of math in today’s world.
“Contemporary Applied Math II is all about the math in the real world, such as the math involved in social choice and elections, the math behind digital applications like bar codes and programming or the math in the business world needed to run a business efficiently,” Math department head Elizabeth Dore said.
Students can choose to take either course, and are not required to take any.
“I see students who are interested in the math behind things that are happening in the real world taking one of these,” Dore said.
