Elf (2003)

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of Will Ferrell, but this movie is hilarious. Buddy the elf is fitting for any audience.

Accidentally transported to the North Pole, Buddy (Ferrell) is raised by elves his whole life. As an adult man, he realizes he clearly doesn’t belong because he is too large in comparison to the elves. This sends him on a meaningful journey to find his biological father. Buddy must face the real world where things are not at all like they were where he spent his entire life. The peculiar interactions he makes with fellow adults and children, his strange language and quirky actions throughout the movie are hysterical.

While the movie intends to entertain, it also has an agenda to discuss family and belonging. Buddy’s excapade through New York City as a result of his midlife crisis gives viewers a sense of warmth by the end of the movie.
