Bring Your Own Device program will create chaos, inconvenience students

In response to “BYOD delayed until second term

Dear Harbinger Editorial Board,

For as long as I have been at Algonquin, classes have accessed laptops with little difficulty, and now it isn’t going to be like that. But now, with the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ plan going into action in November, the students that don’t have access to a laptop will have to worry about getting one from the library and returning it on time before the school day closes. In the beginning and end of the school day, there will be lines around the library to get a hold of a computer. There are around 300 laptops that will be up for grabs in the morning, but what if more students need them? If there is a student in class that has no access to a computer because they are all gone, they would be missing out on an assignment that would need to get done. Along with that, a teacher would need to quickly get an assignment together for one or more of their students so they would not be sitting there with nothing academic to complete. If anything, I think that the Bring Your Own Device plan will create chaos rather than success and will not go over well for the staff or the students.

Sincerely,

Leah Barker
