REVIEW: Younger: a new hit comedy the whole family will enjoy

Caroline Beek, Staff Writer

Pretty much every girl’s dream is to live in New York City in her mid-20’s with a sustainable job, and hit television series “Younger” embodies that fantasy… well, almost.

“Younger” is about Liza Miller (Sutton Foster), a 40-year-old single mom whose teenage daughter is away on a trip to India. Feeling empty-nested, she seeks a job at a publishing company in the heart of New York City. After getting shot down numerous times for being too old for the new publishing generation, Liza sulks to a bar where 26-year-old Josh (Nico Tortorella) mistakes her for also being his age. Since she had been mistaken for a young age by a young man, Liza uses a false age to gain a job at Empirical Publishing.

Liza takes viewers on a journey with all of the problems and misfortunes that come with faking an identity. Romances with younger men and new friendships with 26-year-old work colleagues spark new light into Liza’s life and allow her to rewrite the past.

“Younger” is currently on its third season on TV Land every Wednesday night with only 30 minute long episodes; it’s the perfect show to watch when you need some TV, but lack an abundance of time. The show focuses on putting in satirical new and old generation ideas such as constant obsessions with social media, new technology, and the struggles adults may have to remain younger.

Cast members Sutton Foster, Hilary Duff, Peter Hermann, and Nico Tortorella bring constant jokes, drama and a whole lot of fun to your Wednesday night.

One night when my mom and I were searching for a show, we came across “Younger” having no idea what it was about. Once we watched the first episode, we were hooked. I spent an entire weekend binge-watching it in order to catch up to the fall premiere of season three.

The anticipation of what’s going to arise next in Liza’s life, forces my mom and me onto the couch each week. My obsession with the show has become so large that I blabbed on and on to my friends who have also gotten themselves, and their moms, hooked.

Since “Younger” hasn’t made it to Netflix yet, it hasn’t received the attention it deserves. Catch up on previous episodes On Demand and join me as I watch every Wednesday night. Trust me, it’ll be worth it.
